Wanda Sue Brackett, age 74, was welcomed into Jesus’ arms on September 28, 2025, while surrounded by her family.
Sue was born on November 2 nd, 1950, to Louis Davis and Inabell Davis in Norfolk, Virginia.
She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She loved bingo, bowling, gardening, Jesus, and her many friends and family. She would like it to be noted, not in that order. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and especially her great-grandchild.
Sue spent her career loving on and serving children meals at Marietta City Schools and Cherokee County Schools. She retired in 2019. After retirement, she continued to love on children in the after-school program at Knox Elementary until she began chemotherapy. She loved every child she served and cared for!
Anyone who knew Sue knew that she preferred to be called “MiMi.” She filled any room she was in with laughter and songs. She lit up every room she entered with her red-headed spunk, joy for life, and contagious smile. MiMi was a very strong woman. She was proud of her strength. She was surrounded by many other strong women in her life. We are grateful for the strength that she has taught us, and we have big shoes to fill to carry on her legacy.
She was determined to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. That desire kept her persevering during her 3-year battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Louis and Inabell Davis, her sister Peggy Brown, her brothers Louis Davis Jr. and Wilson “Buster” Davis, and her best friend Judy Delaney.
She is survived by her husband, Dewitt Brackett, brothers, Jimmy Davis and Johnnie Davis, son David Brackett (Arlin Brackett), daughter Marsha Downey (Scott Taylor), niece Rhonda Brown, great nephew Jeffrey Williams (Stephanie Montoya-Williams, grandchildren Drew Downey and Madison Josey-Wooten (Caed Josey-Wooten), great granddaughter Reese Josey-Wooten, and several nieces and nephews and their children.
A service will be held at South Canton Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 1st, at 11:00 AM, and the visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:00 AM. The family welcomes all who knew and loved her, whether that be as Sue, Mrs. Brackett, or MiMi.
Interment will follow at the Georgia Memorial Cemetery in Marietta, GA.
There will be no Funeral Procession to the cemetery, and a meeting time will be given at the conclusion of the Funeral Service.
The family is so grateful for everyone who has prayed for them, provided meals, sat with her and her family, written letters, and stepped in when needed over the past 3 years. Thank you will never be enough.
