Steven Ray Barnes

The Lord called Steven Ray Barnes, age 70, of Canton, Georgia, home on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Northside Hospital Cherokee, surrounded by his family. Steven had deep faith in the Lord and loved his family well, especially his beloved son, Andrew.

Steven proudly served in the Cobb County Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT for 20 years. In addition, he worked in the education department and did commercial inspections for Cobb County.

Steven was a gifted woodcarver, carving beautiful pieces that reflected his creativity and attention to detail. He also loved playing guitar and playing chess competitively. In his later years, Steven learned to play the ukulele.

Most importantly, Steven loved the Lord and served in the church by singing in the choir and teaching adults.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Opal Sue Barnes, and his brother, David Barnes. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Barnes, and his son, Andrew Barnes. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Crown of Marietta, GA, and Sandi Cox (Tony) of Cartersville, GA, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive family and friends from 3:00 - 6:00 PM, Friday, May 22, 2026, at South Canton Funeral Home. The service will be held at South Canton Funeral Home on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM.

The family is accepting flowers, or donations can be made to a college fund for his son, Andrew.
