Robert "Bob" Tiedemann

October 12, 1940 — May 20, 2026

Canton

Robert “Bob” Wayne Tiedemann, Sr., 85, of Canton, Georgia, passed away surrounded by love on May 20, 2026. He was born on October 12, 1940, in Brooklyn, Ohio, to Hannes and Gertrude Tiedemann.

Bob was a devoted man of God and country, serving proudly in the United States Air Force for four years before building a successful career as an engineer in the oil industry, eventually serving as Vice President of Berry Petroleum in Taft, California. His faith guided the way he lived his life — with compassion, generosity, humility, and a deep love for others.

Later in life, he found what he considered his favorite job: serving as a school bus driver for the Cherokee County School System for more than a decade. Known affectionately as “Mr. Bob” by his students, he brought warmth, humor, and steady kindness to the children and families he saw each day.

Bob loved tennis, gadgets, and figuring out how things worked. He was endlessly curious, quick with a solution, and always ready to help. More than anything, he was a force and a presence. He loved deeply, and through him, his family learned how to love deeply too.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hannes and Gertrude Tiedemann, by his brother, William “Bill” Tiedemann, and by his nephew, Dennis “Denny” Tiedemann.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Myra Tiedemann; his children, Robert “Bob” W. Tiedemann, Jr. (Misti), Brian “Ty” Tiedemann (Tracy), Theresa van Duursen (Stefan), Amanda Dyer (Britt), and Rochelle Tiedemann (Davis); his grandchildren, Courtney, Nicholas, Hailey, Cole, Hannah, Ian, Myka, Elena, and Gemma; his great-grandchildren, Declan and Chloe, with one additional great-grandchild on the way; and his niece, Darleen Payne, and grand-nephew, Lucas.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Sixes Church on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a lunch reception. All are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue in honor of Bob. Interment and military honors will take place on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sixes Church in Bob’s memory.

Bob’s family will gather in the days ahead to celebrate a life defined by faith, love, curiosity, laughter, and unwavering presence. His absence will be deeply felt, but the love he gave so freely will continue to live on through all who knew him.
