Ronald "David" Coker, age 77, of Canton, GA passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Friday, October 18, 2024.
He was a graduate of Cherokee High School and continued his college career at Reinhardt College and University of Georgia earning his undergraduate in Accounting. He then served 6 years in the Canton National Guard and finalized his education at Georgia State University earning his Masters in Tax. He married his high school sweetheart, Lenita (Bedelle) Coker and just recently celebrated 55 years together. David was a loving husband, father and friend. David retired about 7 years ago from his partnership Coker James & Company where he worked with amazing colleagues he considers family. During David's retirement he was able to finally focus on his love and talent for making fine furniture. He loved building 17th Century Furniture and found himself amongst kindred spirits within the Society of American Period Furniture Makers (SAPFM). He was known to often share stories of his time in the National Guard, his many friendships he met through church and his love of music. David's instrument of choice was his saxophone which he played from his early years in high school to his recent venture at Carnegie Hall last year with his church orchestra. David was a member of the First Baptist of Woodstock. For many years David taught Sunday School, served as Deacon at his prior church and shared his love and knowledge of the bible and his relationship with Christ.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, on Monday, October 21, 2024, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Rev. Rubin Smith officiating and a few words from Dave’s dear friend, Joe James. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 20, 2024, and from 9:00 AM to the funeral hour, Monday, October 21, 2024 at South Canton Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by:
Mother and Father: James Webb and Freddie Mae Coker.
Survivors include:
Wife - Lenita Bedelle Coker
Daughters: Stephanie (Scott) Mynatt; Meredith (Barclay) Hornung
Grandchildren: Rori and Gunnar Hornung; Addison, Aidan & Bryson Mynatt
Sister: Linda (Lynn) Sewell
Sister in Laws: Sherrie (John) Turner and Sandra Bedelle
As well as many nieces and nephews.
