Monnie Modean Blanton (Blanton)

April 5, 1935 — September 9, 2025

Monnie Modean Blanton, age 90, of Canton, GA, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Canton Center for Nursing and Healing.

Monnie was born April 5, 1935, in Canton, Georgia, to Walter E. and Victoria (Cox) Blanton. She grew up on her parents’ farm in north Cherokee County, Georgia, and attended high school at Reinhardt Academy in Waleska.

Monnie’s home church was New Hightower Baptist Church, where she was baptized in Shoal Creek as a teenager. Then, after an injury at age 17, Monnie’s life would be completely changed. Even though this permanently altered the course and quality of her life, Monnie was perpetually a happy person, and her faith in God was exceedingly strong. She loved learning Bible scriptures and singing the old, traditional church hymns. Regardless of circumstances, she lived her entire life in the joy of her faith and peace in knowing she would be going to her home in Heaven.

Although Monnie’s life was spent at a nursing facility for decades, she was the personification of Matthew 5:16 - “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” In her own quiet way, she was a beacon of light and joy to all those who encountered her, and made the world a happier place through her kindness and the sweetness of her personality.

Monnie will be lovingly remembered for her laughter, her love of family, her faithful devotion to God, and the joy she brought to those who knew her.

Monnie was preceded in death by her parents, Walter E. Blanton and Victoria Cox Blanton, and by her siblings Alene Blanton Jones, Mildred Blanton Pinyan, Dewey F. Blanton, Thurmond T. Blanton and Tim D. Blanton.

She is survived by her sister, Mozelle Blanton Jarvis, who was not only her sister and close companion, she was her roommate at Canton Nursing Center for many years. Monnie is also survived by nieces Yvonne Bryant, Renay Lee, Denise Blanton, Michelle Cox; nephews Kenneth Jarvis, Mark Jones; a large extended family, and dear friends.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Michelle Poole, whose loving care and kindness brought so much happiness to Monnie in her final years.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Chapel of South Canton Funeral. Interment will follow at New Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery.
