Michael Jack “Mickey” Guenther, age 77, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on June 16, 2026. Mickey was born on September 8, 1948, in Copperhill, Tennessee. He was a straight-A student and graduated as valedictorian of his class at Hiwassee Dam High School in North Carolina. He carried that same determination and work ethic throughout his life. Growing up, he excelled in athletics, playing baseball for a men’s team at only 14 and lettering in basketball for four years (the only sport his school had to offer). Though short in stature, he was known for his speed, competitive spirit, and love of sports. Later in life, he continued his passion for athletics through softball, bowling, and coaching all 3 of his kids.
Professionally, Mickey dedicated many years of service to Square D before continuing his career with IBEW Local 613. Later, he worked at Etowah High School doing field maintenance for athletics. He took pride in his work and was respected by those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Mickey was a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a lifelong admirer of Dale Earnhardt.
Mickey found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed trips to the casino, spending time with friends, and, most importantly, being surrounded by family. He had a remarkable ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and never met a stranger. Whether talking about something new or revisiting a favorite story for the hundredth time, he had a gift for connecting with people and making them feel welcome.
Above all else, Mickey loved deeply. He believed in God, believed in the importance of believing in yourself, and shared those values with everyone around him. His generous heart, helping spirit, and steadfast loyalty left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
When asked to describe himself, Mickey chose the words dedicated, loyal, stubborn, kind, and helpful—qualities that truly reflected the man he was. His legacy of love, friendship, faith, and family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Mickey will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and friendship.
