Lou Dunn Coker

Lou Dunn Coker was born in Canton, Georgia on April 22, 1941. She was the eighth and last child to bless the family of Frank and Molly Dunn. Lou grew up with four brothers and three sisters and she was tough as nails just like the rest of her family. She was a pretty, feisty little girl with a love for the outdoors and her family. She worked for her daddy at his grocery store as a younger lady and then became a full-time homemaker when she married the love of her life.

Lou and her husband, James, were married for 50 years at the time of his death in 2012. They loved to travel, garden, and make things beautiful around their home. They loved for people to visit, and everyone loved them.

Lou was also a big favorite of her nieces and nephews, and she had many. She was a tomboy and loved to act like a big kid with them. Every child loved Lou and when he joined the family, James too. It was always a treat to visit them at their home.

Lou became a member of Sixes United Methodist Church on September 14, 1952. She was an avid reader and had read the Bible through and received a certificate from her brother Bob’s church. She loved to learn new things. She discovered Facebook through her niece’s account and enjoyed keeping up with her friends and family. Lou was a huge country music fan, Merle Haggard in particular, and she loved Elvis.

Lou is preceded in death by her husband, James M. Coker, her parents, Frank and Molly Hicks Dunn and her brothers and their spouses: Millard Dunn (Wilton), Willard Dunn (Eva Grace), W.G. (Tot) Dunn (Rosemary), and Bob Dunn (Gerie). She had two sisters, and their spouses precede her in death: Frankie Dunn Sawyer (Forrest), and Jo Dunn Satterfield (Wilton).

Lou’s surviving family members are:

Sister- Shirley Dunn Westbrook and her spouse, Harold Westbrook

Stepdaughter – Kathy Welch

Granddaughter – Mary Ruth Marshall and her spouse, Michael Marshall

Two special nieces who helped with her care after her husband’s death – Holly Westbrook Ricketts and Stacy Westbrook Yawn

She has numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that survive.

Pastor Steve Lyle of Holly Springs United Methodist Church will preside over the graveside service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Cherokee Memorial Park. There will be no public viewing.
