Obituary for Rebecca Kathleen “Kathy” Bateman Vadasy
May 27, 1968 - June 18, 2025 (From Her Family)
We’re writing to share some heartbreaking news. Rebecca Kathleen “Kathy” Bateman Vadasy passed away on June 18, 2025, at the age of 57. Our hearts are heavy with grief, but we’ll always cherish the love and memories we had with Kathy.
Born on May 27, 1968, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kathy spent most of her life in Conyers, Georgia, later making a home in Canton. She was the embodiment of unconditional love, the kindest soul, and the heart of her family. She graduated from Heritage High School in Conyers, in 1987 and attended Truett McConnell University.
To know Kathy was to be cared for. Her life was a testament to selflessness and strength. As a devoted mother, sister, and friend, she poured every bit of her being into her family, centering her world around her daughter, Kathryn E. Smith, whom she adored beyond measure. She attended every softball game and school event that her daughter was involved in.
Kathy served others not only in her home but also in her community, volunteering for numerous children’s charities throughout her life. She volunteered on committee for Georgia Parents Support Network (GSPN) and on Children’s Committee at Hickory Flat United Methodist Church. Kathy was Girl Scout Leader and 4-H Volunteer working in 4-H with both her little brother Bill and later daughter Kathryn.
She was also a survivor of esophageal cancer-a powerful symbol of her quiet resilience and determination. Even in hardship, she remained gentle, kind, and devoted to those she loved.
She is survived by her beloved daughter Kathryn and son-in-law Addison; her brothers, William M. Bateman (Rodger) and James Perez Bateman (Pablo). She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Vadasy, and by her loving parents, F. Ellis and Rebecca Bateman-each of whom held a special place in her heart.
A visitation will be held at 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Hickory Flat United Methodist Church (4056 E Cherokee Dr, Canton, GA 30115). A reception will follow the service-all who knew Kathy are welcome to attend and celebrate her life. Flowers can be delivered to South Canton Funeral Home (3147 Marietta Hwy Canton, GA 30114). Kathy’s gentle heart and unwavering kindness will forever be a reminder to treat others with love, compassion, and care. Her legacy lives on in every act of kindness we offer in her name.
