Jeffrey Lynn Puckett, age 74, of Canton, GA passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 24th at Northside Hospital Cherokee after a long bout with congestive heart failure. Jeff was born in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Gerald "Max" and Elizabeth Puckett. He grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana where he attended West Lafayette High School. Among Jeff’s numerous accomplishments while at WLHS were several leadership positions, including serving as President of the Junior class, leading the fundraising effort to finance the prom, helping to improve student and teacher communication as a member of the student council, and participating in community service projects, such as the Hi-Y Club. Jeff was also an exceptional athlete, starring on the basketball and tennis teams. Academically, Jeff was a serious student who graduated near the top of his high school class before attending Purdue University, where he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design. He went on to spend most of his career as an independent contractor and builder while residing in Marietta, GA with his family.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Theresa Puckett, becoming a loving single father to his two children. Jeff always enjoyed sharing his interests, such as gardening and woodworking, with both of his kids. He enjoyed these hobbies along with various others including cooking, drawing, and pottery. He also enjoyed cheering on and supporting his children in their extracurricular activities and athletics, spending time as a Scout leader for his son, and facilitating his daughter’s dance endeavors by helping with hair and prep for numerous competitions and recitals. More recently, he found joy in reading to and playing with his granddaughter. He loved reconnecting with the many friends and acquaintances from his days growing up in West Lafayette and always looked forward to reuniting with them whenever possible.
In addition to his parents and his wife Mary, he is preceded in death by his stepfather Merle Teel, and brother Mike Puckett. He is survived by his two children Zach (Rebecca) Puckett and Sara (Cass) Miloni, and granddaughter Isla Miloni. He is also survived by an extended family including step-siblings, nieces, nephews, and their respective families.
Jeff will be remembered as a free spirit with a love of learning new things. Jeff was a loving father, son, husband, brother, and friend, and will be remembered as such by those who knew him. The family is planning to have a small memorial with close friends and family at a to-be-determined time to celebrate his life and legacy once he is laid to rest.
