George Russell, Jr.

George P. Russell Jr., age 74, passed away on October 7, 2023 at his home in Canton, Georgia after battling brain cancer.

Born on June 17, 1949, he lived his childhood years in Forest Park, GA. He was preceded in death by his father, George Russell Sr; mother, Dorothy Wheeless; stepfather, Bill Wheeless and brother, Randy Russell. He is survived by his wife, Becky Russell; his son and daughter; stepson, Sam Mason; stepdaughter, Jessica Cooke (Trenton); six grandchildren; brother, Scott Russell (Kim); sisters, Judy Montgomery, Laura White, Cheryl Harper; sister-in-law, Shirley Russell; nieces and nephews.

George served his country in the Army Security Agency during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Economics and later earned his MBA in Finance. He worked as a Budget Analyst with the IRS for ten years and with the CDC for seven years.

For 15 years George was a volunteer tax preparer with VITA. Which led him to start his own tax prep business, GRITS or George Russell's Income Tax Service. He helped a lot of people, and his clients became his friends. He often said he felt it was more of a ministry than a job.

George was a member of Canton First Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the

choir. He was an avid golfer, enjoying the comradery as much as the game.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Pastor Lynn Eynon officiating. Internment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with honors by the United States Army.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the Funeral Hour at 12:00 Noon at the South Canton Funeral Home
