Edward Frank Hipp
October 1, 1938 – September 19, 2024
Edward (Ed) was born in Rochester, New York, October 1, 1938. He attended Edison Technical High School and the Rochester Institute of Technology where he studied Electrical Engineering. After graduation, Ed entered Officer Training School (OTS) at Lackland AFB in Texas. Ed’s Air Force active service started December, 1961.
He had a 23 year decorated career in the United States Air Force (USAF) and he retired as a Colonel. In 1969 Ed graduated from the Air Force Institute of Technology. His Air Force career included service in Vietnam; multiple tours at the Pentagon including Headquarters Air Force and Air Warfare division of the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Ed proudly helped represent the U.S. at NATO meetings in Brussels. His leadership, humility, and dedication to duty inspired everyone around him.
After retiring from the Air Force, Edward continued to excel in his professional career as a corporate executive at GTE. A talented electrical engineer, he was known for his intellect, problem-solving skills, and relentless work ethic.
Edward lived a remarkable life filled with devotion to his family, distinguished service to his country, and a wide array of talents and hobbies that brought joy to all who knew him.
Above all, Edward was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Barbara, for 62 years. He was also a dedicated father and grandfather, always sharing his time and wisdom. His talents were wide-ranging—an engineer, carpenter, fisherman, hunter, sailor, and golfer. There was nothing Edward couldn’t fix or create. He was happiest on the golf course, or sailing in Buzzard’s Bay, Massachusetts. Ed enjoyed time with his family, whether teaching gun safety, sailing, or playing cards around the kitchen table.
Edward embraced life with an adventurous spirit. He taught his family to love and respect nature, to pursue excellence, and to always act with integrity. His legacy is one of hard work, humility, and a deep love for his family and friends. Edward leaves behind a legacy that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
