At 89 years old, surrounded by his family and wrapped in love, Dr. Floyd Falany peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 26, 2025. Although our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort knowing he’s resting now in the arms of the God he faithfully served.
Doc came from humble beginnings and never forgot where he came from. He never needed much - just his faith, his family, and nature! Those who knew him best knew him as a steady rock, a safe place to land, and a gentle presence that never wavered. He led with love and gave without asking for anything in return. He showed everyone around him what it truly means to live with purpose, kindness, generosity, and an open heart. To say he made an impact doesn’t begin to capture the truth - if you met him once, you remembered him forever. He had a rare gift for making others feel seen, valued, and safe. Offering hugs that softened even the hardest days and wisdom that either struck like lightning or echoed for years to come.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Fay, and a proud dad to four daughters: Dr. Angie Falany, Nurse Candy Wilbanks, Teacher Cortney Massoud, and Pastor Kelly Brumbeloe. Each daughter is a living reflection of his strength, grace, and spirit. As a grandfather to thirteen, he was lovingly known as “Pa,” teaching what love looks like when it’s patient, steady, and true. And as a great-grandfather to two little ones, his stories and legacy will live on for generations.
Doc graduated from FSU and earned both his master’s and Ph.D. from UGA. He began his tenure at Reinhardt College as an Academic Dean and Professor of Behavioral Science, and eventually served as the college's president for many years. Even after his ‘retirement,’ he continued to lead, serving two terms as interim president at Tennessee Wesleyan.
Professionally, he was a visionary leader, but beyond titles and accomplishments, it was his humble, servant-hearted leadership in his church and community, and his unwavering presence as a devoted husband, father, and ‘Pa,’ that truly defined him. Though he traveled often, Doc found joy in life’s quieter rhythms, early mornings in the garden, and time with family at Ezell Beach.
The world feels a little dimmer without him here, but oh, how bright his light shone while he was. We’ll celebrate his life with tears and smiles, sharing stories that make us laugh through the ache. If you want to honor him, do something kind for someone today - that’s exactly what he would’ve wanted.
We miss you already, Doc, but we know you’re home now.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for Embrace Church and the Floyd Falany Scholarship Fund at Reinhardt University.
