Carol Lavonne Davis passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends on Sunday, July 6, 2025 at the age of 81. Born at home on August 31, 1943, in Canton, Georgia, she was the daughter of Lloyd David Payne and Ruby Lee Parks Payne. A lifelong resident of Cherokee County, Carol was the heart of her family and an example of gentleness, quiet strength, and grace.
She shared 62 years of marriage with her late husband, Homer J. Davis. Carol was a member of the Foot Washing Baptist faith since receiving her salvation at age 14 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures - caring for her home, loving on her children and grandchildren, and being a steady presence for everyone around her. She was a modest lady of few words, but she had a smile to offer everyone she met.
Carol was a graduate of Cherokee High School. Her primary role in life was being a homemaker, but she enjoyed working several years cleaning homes with someone she considered to be a dear friend, Ms. Loretta Weaver. She later worked many years at Clayton Food Store where she was known for her amazing skills baking cakes, brownies, pies, and biscuits. She was a wonderful cook at home as well and always prepared home-cooked meals for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer J. Davis; her parents, Lloyd and Ruby Payne; and her brother, Lloyd D. Payne, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters Angie (Tom) Lewis and Andrea (Erick) Stiles; grandchildren Heather (Shawn) Holcomb, Grace (Huntre) Lewis, Ruby Lewis, and Noah Stiles; great-grandson Riley Sisson; her brother Stanley (Bonnie) Payne; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and several bonus great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who brought her great joy.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with the funeral service immediately following at South Canton Funeral Home in Canton, Georgia.
Carol’s love was constant, her faith unwavering, and her presence a gift to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
