"Butch" Owens

Mrs. F. Pearl “Butch” Owens of Canton Georgia, passed away on August 02, 2023 after a long life full of love, at the age of 93. It was her time to rest in the arms of the lord and reunite with loved ones.

Butch, was born on June 18, 1930 to Arvil and Myrtie McBee in Fairmount Georgia where she grew up. She married the love of her life, J. Baxter Owens, after his service in the Army during WWII and the beginning of his career as a Railroad Agent. They were married 60 years and had two daughters, Pamela Rountree (Tampa, FL) and Sonia Carruthers (Woodstock, GA); and two grandchildren Kyle Carruthers (Alexandria, VA) and Dakota Carruthers (Atlanta, GA) who were the light of her life. She spent her last few years with Trinity Manor in Freehome, which she loved so very much.

With a great love for working with children, Butch retired in the 80’s as the Director of the Cherokee County Child Development Centers, then in Canton and Waleska. She went on to serve in her church doing what she loved as a Sunday School teacher to the little ones. Her other love and major hobby was her flowers. She loved flowers and always had a beautiful yard full of them, as well as the vegetables she grew.

Butch was predeceased by loving husband, James Baxter Owens (Canton, GA); her mother and father, Arvil and Myrtie McBee (Fairmount, GA); Ethylene and Buren McBee the big brother she loved, especially because he gave her the nickname “Butch;” and Brother-in-law Wiley “Stumpy” Sullins.

She is survived by her beloved big sister Louise Sullins (Cartersville, GA) who is the nearest and dearest to her heart; her two daughters Pamela and Sonia and her grandchildren Kyle and Dakota, along with her nieces and nephews: Marsha Lee (David) (Cartersville, GA); Wiley Sullins Jr. (Cartersville, GA); Charlene Peavy (Tim) (Fayetteville, GA); Lamar McBee (Betsy) (Calhoun, GA); Lanier McBee (Pam)

(Hoschton, GA) (Linda Pemberton (Bob) Somerset, KY; family cousin Ginny Towers (Don, deceased) (Canton, GA); many friends, church family, and good neighbors.

Services will be held at the church she has loved and belonged to all of her life, Pleasant Grove (RYO) Baptist Church in Fairmount, GA. The service at the church will be on Sunday August 06, 2023 at 2:00pm. The body will lay in state one hour before the service at the church in Fairmount and also at South Canton Funeral Home in Canton, GA on Saturday the 5 th from 11:00am – 8:00pm and Sunday the 6th from 10:00am - 12:00pm.
