Bruce Thomas Harger

Bruce Thomas Harger, Sr., age 78, of Waleska, GA passed away Friday, June 23, 2023 at Northside Hospital Forsyth.

Bruce was born on August 30, 1944 in Saginaw, Michigan. As a young child, his family moved to Stanwood, Michigan where he would later attend school. Bruce graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1962 and went on to attend Michigan State University, where he graduated with a Master's in 1967 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966. He began his career in 1967 at Lake Superior State University as an assistant professor of Economics. Bruce served in a variety of roles during his tenure at LSSU, retiring in 2007 as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Shortly after his retirement, he returned to LSSU to serve as Director of Charter Schools.

He enjoyed reading and was a life-long learner, obtaining his Ph.D. from Michigan State in 1991. Other passions included cooking, watching the Spartans play, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bruce adored his wife of 58 years and they loved to travel.

Bruce and his wife spent many winters in Mazatlán, Mexico. Over the years, they became a part of the community in Mazatlán too. They regularly attended the local baseball games, supported the arts, and developed many close friendships while in Mazatlán.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret (Pruetz) Harger; brothers, Richard and Robert Harger; and sister, Shirley Massman.

Daughter & Son-in-law - Kristin Harger (Bryan Kirker), Phelan, CA

Ten Grandchildren also survive.
