It is with great sorrow that the Fortenberry family announces the passing of William Carl “Billy”Fortenberry. He is survived by his wife- Brittany Fortenberry; 3 sons- James William Fortenberry, David Isaac Fortenberry, and Charles Patrick Fortenberry; Parents- Bill and Denise Fortenberry; Brother- Joseph Brett Fortenberry, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, family, and friends. Billy lived a life enjoying his faith, family, friends, and fulfilling career. Billy graduated with his bachelors in Christian Studies with a concentration in Missions from Truett-McConnell College in the spring of 2012. As a passionate evangelist, Billy traveled overseas to India and Iraq to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. In college, Billy met the love of his life, Brittany. They married in the summer of 2011.
After graduating, Billy served as pastor for a small congregation in Unadilla, Ga for a year. However, he found his true calling when he entered the automotive industry. Through his career in sales, Billy continued his work as an evangelist, mentor, and friend. To his family, Billy was a devoted husband and father. Billy took great pride in raising his 3 sons. Billy and Brittany loved going on dates together to concerts, movies, and their favorite restaurants. In his youth, Billy was active in sports. As a father, Billy found great joy in cheering on his sons in their athletics. Billy was also passionate about leadership and personal development, and always sought to expand his knowledge.
Throughout Billy’s thirties, he contended against an autoimmune disorder known as Evan’s syndrome. In the summer of 2022, Billy suffered a severe stroke that impaired his ability to speak and walk. Despite these challenges, Billy courageously persevered in his recovery. Billy passed into his eternal reward on May 6, 2023. With great love and affection, he will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, on Thursday, May 11, 2023, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Pastor Russell Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Rydal, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 11, 2023 from the South Canton Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to the Etowah Church in Dawsonville, GA or The Shepherd Center (shepherd.org)
