Benny Lee Henderson, age 88, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 15, 1936, to Albert Lee Henderson and Gertie Burgess Henderson, both native of the Hopewell Community in North Fulton County. Ben was educated in the Atlanta Public Schools and graduated from North Fulton High School in 1953. He attended Young Harris College and was an Army veteran, having served in Germany, where he was a member of the Long-Range Patrol and the Rifle Team. He was Honorably Discharged in 1961.
While a resident of Atlanta and later Roswell, Georgia, he had a long and rewarding career with Georgia Power Company, serving in the Steam Generation Operations. After retirement , he built a home in the North Georgia Mountains and married the love of his life, Cynthia Terzia of Monroe, Louisiana, on June 9,1993. They enjoyed several years in their mountain top cottage in the Tickanetly/Bucktown area of Ellijay before relocating to Canton, Georgia, where they have resided for 26 years. Ben was of Baptist faith and was formerly a Sunday School teacher at Hopewell Baptist Church, Milton area, along with his first cousin Donald Wilkie. In Ben’s younger years he enjoyed scuba diving, hiking, hunting, as well as travelling and computers.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Gertie Henderson, his sister Jeanette Henderson Rolader, and his brother-in-law D.W. “Pete” Rolader.
He is survived by his widow Cynthia Henderson, his nephew Don Rolader (Susan) and niece Sally Rolader of Big Canoe, his niece Melanie Kleekamp (Tommy) of Marietta, his great nephews Donny Rolader (Kelly), Peter Watkins (Kelly), and Christopher Watkins, his great niece Katie Smith (Matt), his great-great nephews Walker Smith and Forbes Watkins, and great-great nieces Lauren Smith and Jancey Watkins. He is also survived by his first cousin Donald Wilkie.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at South Canton Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Sutton officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in his memory.
With a great and appreciative heart, Cynthia would like to thank LaShanda, Marlana, and Trey for their care of Ben. Their kindness and love to Ben will be forever remembered. Kaley was a blessing as well. The Amedisys Long-Term Hospice Staff of the Kennesaw office provided much assistance in allowing Cynthia to care for Ben at home.
