Barbara Allred Fitzgerald, age 89, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024, in her residence. A native
of Canton, GA, she was born on March 2, 1935, to Rev. Sam Allred and Essie Allred. She was a
lifelong member of Riverdale Baptist Church.
Barbara graduated from Canton High School earning her degree a year in advance because she
was smart enough to skip a grade. She married Bob Fitzgerald and together they operated
Fitzgerald Tax Services with locations across North Georgia, including Cherokee, Forsyth,
Gilmer and Pickens Counties. They had seven children and when Barbara became a widow she
never dated or remarried. She lived the rest of her life showing the love of Jesus to all she met
and knew throughout her life. She lived a life full of faith, love and hope. The love she had for
her family was unconditional. She was respected and loved by many people of different
backgrounds, races and means. She was the epitome of a selfless servant of the Lord. She now
rests in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Barbara loved all sports and attended many ball games and sporting events, always cheering on
all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She never missed an event for her
family, attending plays, recitals, and any other activities her family was involved in. She loved
watching sports on TV, especially the Braves. She loved to travel and took many trips with her
children over the years. She also enjoyed a good meal – especially in the company of family and
friends, of which she had an abundance. She was devoted to her church family and saw God
answer so many of her faithful prayers. Barbara worked for the Cherokee County Courthouse,
and being an invaluable asset, did not retire until age 85. She will be missed dearly by her family
and friends.
