Obituary for Winnie Mae Blanton (Adkerson)

Winnie Mae Adkerson Blanton, 92 years of age, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Monday, August 26, 2019.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, from the South Canton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Horace Richards officiating. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour.

Winnie was born on January 16, 1927 at the Carpenter Farm located outside of Waleska, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lillie Mae Adkerson and her brothers, Charles Adkerson and Jim Adkerson.

Winnie raised three children, Lynda Kay, Patsy Ann, and Johnny in the North Canton Mill Village. As a child, Winnie picked cotton on the Carpenter Farm with her family. A strong, capable woman, Winnie worked as a weaver in the Canton Textile Mill until her retirement.

Her Christian faith set an example for her children and grandchildren. Winnie knew once she left this earth she would be in the arms of Jesus and wanted the same for others. She was a longtime member of North Canton Baptist Church where she attended regularly with her husband, Tom. Her generous heart helped secure housing for various friends and family members throughout the years and she opened her home to anyone in need. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

During her retirement you could either find her scooping ice cream cones at the South Canton Top Shop or playing Bingo with friends. Winnie loved the outdoors and spent countless hours in her yard gardening. She enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time spoiling her grandchildren. Nothing pleased her more than the special times when all her family were gathered under one roof. We are sure she is smiling down from heaven as she watches those she loves gather during this time as we remember her life.

Winnie's independent spirit and zest for life will be missed here on earth by those who loved her, but we celebrate in knowing she is walking on streets of gold with her beloved husband, family, and friends that have been patiently awaiting her heavenly arrival.

Her surviving family members include:

Daughter: Lynda (Cliff) Foster of Ringgold, GA
