Obituary for Theodore Becker Blakey

Theodore Becker Blakey, 72, of Canton, GA died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 of complications related to lung cancer. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.



Mr. Blakey was born in Beattyville Kentucky on August 25, 1938 to the late Frank Trimble and Anne Jameson Blakey. After graduating from Kenyon College in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts in History, he joined the United States Army, serving in both the United States and England as part of the Signal Corps. It was in England where he met Anne Petch, and they married.



After returning to the United States, he honorably discharged from the Army and joined Defense Communications Agency-Department of Defense, where he worked in Georgia, Vietnam, Texas, Korea, Illinois and Ohio. He worked in both times of peace and active conflict at these duty stations, most notably in Saigon, where he was one of the last Americans to evacuate. In November 2010 he retired was recognized for 50 years of service to his country.



He is survived by his brothers, Walker Jameson Blakey and John Beatty Blakey of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; his children Deborah Blakey of Ty Ty, GA, Christina Strassenberg and her husband, Kurt, of Albany, GA, Jacqueline Amanda Jacobsen and her husband, Al, of Canton, GA, Anthony Blakey and his wife, Kathy, of Albany, GA, and Meg Blakey Mims of Putney, GA; four grandsons, Robert Mims, Jacob Blakey, Colin Blakey, and Cole Blakey. In addition to his parents Mr. Blakey was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Anne Blakey and one brother, Frank Trimble Blakey, Jr.
