Obituary for Richard Blalock

Richard Marshall Blalock, age 77, of Canton Georgia, passed away on
Thursday October 27, 2011 from complications of lung cancer. He was the son of the late John and Annie Blalock, born on April 24, 1934 in Cobb County Georgia.

Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 PM on Monday, October 31, at the chapel of South Canton Funeral Home, with interment to follow in the GA National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

He was married to Betty Lavonne Griffin on April 30, 1954 while
serving in the Air Force at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada. Richard and Betty
had two children, Janet Blalock Cain and Richard Blalock Jr. Richard served
in the United States Air Force from 1952 through 1956. After his military
service, he worked at Boeing Aircraft in Philadelphia and then moved to
Georgia with Lockheed Martin and later retired from Dankaert Woodworking
Machinery as a Field Service Manager. He retired in 2000 after 25 years of
service.

Richard was affectionately known as ‘Graybeard’ by his grandchildren,
family and friends. He was an avid lifelong boatsman and enjoyed spending
his spare time with family and friends on “the lake”. He enjoyed riding his
Gold Wing motorcycle with family and friends or anyone that could keep up
with his need for speed. He was an active member of the national motorcycle
club, Gold Wing Road Riders Association(GWRRA) and the Woodstock Wings.

Richard is survived by Betty, his wife of 57 years, daughter and husband
Janet and Norman Cain of Powder Springs, Georgia and son Richard Blalock,
Jr. of Canton, Georgia. He had five grandchildren, Michelle Cain Washington,
Zachry Cain, Jessica Cain Samanie, Nicole Cain Lance and Richard Blalock III
and six great grandchildren, Riley Washington, Ella & Marshall Samanie,
Lucas and Logan Lance and Braydon Blalock.
