Obituary for Raleigh J. Albury

Raleigh J. Albury, 79, retired from Atlantic Steel, died at Kennestone Hospital Thursday, October 8, 2020. Raleigh was preceded in death by his wife, LeVonia Smith Albury. He was also preceded in death by his mother Eudelle Dumas Albury and his brother, Woodrow Wilson Albury Jr. He is survived by his two children. His son, Christian Ashley Albury and his wife Warda Albury, and his daughter, Laurie Albury Kelly and her husband John Lance Kelly; four grandchildren, Bailey Kelly, John Kelly Jr., Janelle Kelly Sung and Allison Kelly Zeledon and great grandchildren, Sutton Kelly, Dylan and Vivian Sung, Gracie, Cami, and Addie Zeledon. He is also survived by a brother, David Terrell Albury. He is also survived by sister-in law Margie Smith Sellers Barton and brother-in law, Gene Cook, and many nieces and nephews.

Raleigh spent his career with Atlantic Steel Company and retired from there. Following his retirement, he became an avid square dancer and instructor. He was a member of the Cherokee Squares, Bartow Dixie Grands, the Wheel Arounds, and the Kennesaw Square Dealers dance club. In his leisure time, Raleigh enjoyed boating, fishing, and gardening.

During his employment, Raleigh attended Georgia State University studying business administration. He was subsequently appointed to General Foreman over the 13-inch mill in Atlanta and also worked as a foreman supervisor at the Atlantic Steel Mill in Cartersville, GA, a position he held for several years.
Raleigh was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church since 1973, where he served on the Board of Trustees, and was on the Church Council.

The family will have a viewing for friends and family from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13 and a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. at the Cherokee Memorial Park, Canton, Georgia in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or National Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of Raleigh.
