Obituary for Millolla Dobbins

Millolla Dobbins was born to the union of Ellis Gordon Sr. and Carrie Hall on October 14, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois. Millolla was the fifth child and baby girl of six children.

Millolla was united in Holy matrimony to Richard L. Dobbins Sr., who preceded her in death. From this marriage eight children were born.

Millolla was the Matriarch devoted to her family and enjoyed sewing clothes for her children when they were younger. She was a homemaker who delighted in socializing with her family, was an avid reader and treasured cooking large dinners for special holidays, which included her specialty “homemade dinner rolls”. As her children grew older, Millolla entered the business world as a salesperson for Mr. Peters’ clothiers and later as a computer operator for P.C. Brand Network Corporation.

Millolla or “Mel” as she was affectionately called by many who loved her was stricken with a debilitating illness that created many challenges. Throughout this illness, her walk with God was strengthened. Her most memorable experiences were traveling to Grand Valley State University, Holly Springs, Georgia, and listening to the musical sounds of the piano played by her granddaughter, Courtney.

Millolla accepted Christ as her personal savior and was a charter member and co-founder of Vernon Park Church of God In Christ.

She transitioned peacefully surrounded by family to her Heavenly mansion, Saturday the 10th of March at her home in Georgia.

Millolla leaves to cherish her memory eight children, Richard L. Dobbins Jr., Pamela (Edward) Madgett, Patricia (Chris) Hatcher-Roberts, Cardell (Astra) Dobbins, LaTawn (Gregory) Baker, Canary (John) Adams, Vincent (Susan) Dobbins, and Cheri (Leon) Barley; one sister Cleopatra and one sister-in-law, Mary Gordon. Her sister, Bernice Grantlen and brothers’ Samuel, Ellis and Daniel Gordon preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn her precious memory grandchildren, Michael (Kim), Tracie (Shaun) Awong, who preceded her in death, Kristal, Karen, Scott, Christopher, Kimberle (Jeffery), Courtney, Richard, Corey, Jordan, David and Morgan. She has nine great grandchildren, Christian, Mykayla, Ejan, Tania, Alliyah, Damond, Reality, Hayden and Kaydence; plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
