Obituary for Melvin E. Weeks Sr.
Born in Burke Co., NC on Nov. 2, 1930
Melvin E. Weeks, Sr., age 78, of Woodstock, formerly of Columbus, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009 at Embracing Hospice. He was a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant, an Airborne Ranger and was awarded the Bronze Star while serving in Vietnam. He retired from Georgia Department of Family & Children's Services with 15 years of service and was a member and Deacon of Edgewood Baptist Church in Columbus, GA.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009 at Georgia National Cemetery with interment following.
Survivors include his wife, April Weeks, Woodstock; sons, Melvin Weeks, Jr., Woodstock and Derek Weeks, Valdosta; brother, Albert Weeks, Newton, NC; sister, Nancy Page, Newton, NC; grandchildren, Kelley Smith, Paige Humphreys, Emily Flowe, Beth Weeks, Amy Weeks, Meredith Conner, Jacob Weeks, Sarah Weeks & John Weeks; great grandchildren, Raegan Humphreys and Katelyn Smith
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7 until 8 pm at the funeral home. South Canton Funeral Home & Chapel, 3147 Marietta Hwy., Canton, GA 30114 (770) 479-3377.
