Melrose Flathers "Tootsie" Norton, age 89 of Canton died Friday, August 23, 2019 at Northside Hospital Cherokee after a long period of declining health. She was a born-again Christian and longtime member of Hopewell Baptist Church. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother of enormous talent and boundless energy, she worked, raised her children, maintained a perfectly organized household and made it all look effortless. She worked at the Canton Cotton Mill until it closed in 1981.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, on Monday, August 26, 2019, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Ware officiating. Entombment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, August 25, 2019, and from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Monday, August 26, 2019 at South Canton Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel Wheeler Flathers; and her husband of 57 years, B.H. Norton; Four brothers: Merlin, James, Truman and Thurman Flathers, and one sister: Melba Gomes.
She is survived by three sons and daughter-in-law: Randall (Angela) Norton of Waleska, Jim (Teresa) Norton, and Tim (Jennifer) Norton all of Canton. Granddaughter: Kristin (Cory) Gauthier, Grandsons: Ben, Brett, Zach, Van, and Paul Norton. Great-Granddaughters: Hayden and Addison Gauthier. One sister: Myrna Brovviak of California, numerous nieces and nephews and a very special and much appreciated caregiver: Jennifer Maurdlydn Williams also survive.
