Obituary for Linda Jean Van Vacter (Clemmer)

Linda Van Vacter, age 77 of Canton, Georgia, passed away August 19th, 2023, at her home surrounded by loved ones.

"Grandma" Linda was kind, caring, full of life and loved nothing more than to spend time with her family. Linda was born in 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Rosemary Clemmer. Linda had one sister named Judy. Linda grew up in southern California. Linda met her husband Jim Van Vacter when he was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California, while serving in the Marines. In order to go on their first date Jim made Linda fill out an "Application to Date a Marine." They were married on January 7th, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had their first daughter, Dawn, while living in Denver, Colorado, and their second daughter, Cori, while living in Helena, Montana. Shortly after moving to Atlanta in 1979, they had their son, Jason. This is where they would spend the next 44 years raising their family and watching it grow. Jim and Linda were devoted sweethearts that were married for over 53 years.

Linda’s passions were her family, her friends and spending time outside feeding her birds. She had a servant’s heart and loved helping others. She truly loved being around people. Linda also never met a stranger. She would talk to anyone and would do anything for her family or friends. Linda loved to tell stories about her family and loved telling the stories of her children growing up to her grandchildren.

Linda enjoyed the annual family vacations, holiday gatherings, and countless activities involving her 9 grandchildren. Any time she could be with her family she would. She loved to spoil her grandchildren. Christmas always looked like she had bought out the stores. Her Christmas tree seemed to have one of everything underneath it for her grandchildren. She loved being a grandma and would do anything for her grandkids.

Over the course of her life Linda was an avid reader, and a lover of animals. She also enjoyed crocheting, and even made blankets for all her grandkids when they were born. She enjoyed staying up late reading books and watching movies. Linda loved the many pets she had over the years. She had many animals as pets, but her favorite pet by far was her Dachshund/Poodle mix, named Onyx. Her pets always brought her great joy. If you were looking for Linda and couldn’t find her, she was probably outside feeding her birds.

Linda will forever be remembered as a loving and kind soul. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and her husband. She is survived by her children: Dawn, Cori and Jason, her 9 grandchildren: Samantha, Charlynn, Amber, Morgan, Sevie, Maci, Mackenna, Jacob and Caroline as well as her 5 great-grandchildren: Brooklynn, Benson, Ava, Ellie and Ila. We will miss you Grandma! But take great joy in knowing you are with Dad again as we know he has missed you!
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday August 24th, 2023, at South Canton Funeral Home, in Canton, Georgia, with Luke Andrews officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until the hour of services at the funeral home.

Interment will be for family only at 11:00am, Friday August 25th, 2023, at Georgia National Cemetery, in Canton, Georgia.
