Obituary for Hazel Reinhardt Hill Moore

Hazel Reinhardt Hill Moore, age 83 years, was born August 24, 1928 on a farm in Waleska, Cherokee County, Georgia, and was called home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2012 at Embracing Hospice, Cumming, Georgia. Hazel was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl J. Hill; son, James Terry Hill; parents, D.S. Reinhardt and Pearl Cline Reinhardt; and brothers Joe Reinhardt, John Reinhardt and Paul Reinhardt.

Hazel is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Joe B. Moore of Cartersville, and her faithful sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Joan Hill and Jerald and Sarah Hill, all of Ball Ground. She was the proud Grandmother of Cleve and Allie Hill of Canton and Seth and Nichole Hill of Alpharetta, and in October 2011 she celebrated the birth of her first great- grandchild, Olivia Reinhardt Hill of Canton. She is also survived by her sisters, Sue King, Marjorie Woodall, and Bettye Ledbetter, all of Canton, and sisters-in-law Beverly Reinhardt David, Jane Reinhardt, and Brenda Reinhardt. Hazel is also survived by her step-daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Harold Fowler of Cartersville, and step-grandson, Boyd Fowler of Cartersville.

Hazel was the first of seven children born to D.S. Reinhardt and Pearl Cline Reinhardt. A life-long love of music began at an early age for Hazel as Papa and Mama Reinhardt would travel the area teaching Gospel singing schools and, at home, they taught their children the art of reading music and singing. The Reinhardt children—Hazel, Joe, Sue, Bettye, Margie, John, and Paul—were all gifted singers. Later in life, Hazel would be called upon time and again to share her musical talents. In the 1970s, as a member of Hightower Baptist Church, Hazel organized and directed the first ladies choir and several years later organized and directed the first full choir. She directed the Hightower choir during two different stints—during the 1970s to early 1980s, and again in the 1990s. As she progressed into senior adulthood, Hazel organized and directed the Golden Tones Singers at the Bartow County Senior Citizens’ Center in Cartersville. Hazel graduated high school from Reinhardt Academy on the campus of Reinhardt College in 1945. In 1946, she married Carl J. Hill, and in short succession, Hazel and Carl welcomed sons Jimmy, Billy, and Jerald. While Carl—an inventor and entrepreneur in the poultry processing industry—was on the road building his business, Hazel was extremely active in her boys’ schools and the local PTA, which awarded her a lifetime membership for her service. Always active in church, Hazel organized and directed the very first Vacation Bible Schools at both Oakdale Baptist Church and Hightower Baptist Church. Her passion for education lead her to assist other adults in learning to read. When health permitted, Hazel and Joe traveled frequently, including trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and Japan.

She will be missed as she was loved—greatly.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, February 01, 2012, at the Hightower Baptist Church where she will lie-in-state from 12:30 -1:00, with Rev. Gerral Richards officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday, January 30, 2012, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at South Canton Funeral Home. In Lieu of Flowers, contributions may be made to GA Cancer Specialists or Hightower Baptist Church.
