Obituary for George Franklin Woodruff, Jr.

The South Canton Funeral Home of Canton, Georgia, announces the death of Mr. George F. Woodruff, Jr., of Trinka Davis Veterans Village, Carrollton, Georgia, who passed away on August 18, 2020. Mr. Woodruff was born in Avilla, Indiana on July 29, 1927, to the late George Henry and Verda Viola Woodruff. He was a Legislative Consultant, Campaign Strategist, published Author and a 100 percent service disabled war veteran. Over his long life he wrote three books. The first two, "Day of Indignation" and Miracle at St. Luke's, were Christian fiction set in the north Georgia Mountains near Blue Ridge. His third book "Just Before Taps" the story of the unique Trinka Davis Veterans Village, in Carrollton, Georgia was written at the age of 87 while he was a resident there.

Mr. Woodruff was a former 25 year resident of Fannin County. He was a member and former Secretary of McCay Lodge 423, F. & A.M. He served on the Military Academy Selection Committees for former Georgia Congressman Ed Jenkins and former Florida Congressman Buddy Mackay, as Secretary of the Fannin County Republican Party, a member of the Fannin Six and was active in numerous political campaigns. Mr. Woodruff was a Life member of D A V, Chapter 28, in Blue Ridge and a member of the American Legion Post 143 in Carrollton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy (World War Two) and the U.S. Army (Berlin Airlift and the Korean War).

Survivors include his wife Jeanne, of 553 Crested Hawk Ridge, Canton, Georgia. He has five daughters: Julie, Shannon of Canton, Georgia, Sandra Woodruff of Tallahassee, Florida, Cheryl Lewkowicz of Seneca Falls, New York, Dianne Winegard of Ft. McCoy, Florida, Margaret Fox, of Orland, Florida, stepson Clark Pollard of Wesley Chapel, Florida, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A Committal Service will be held at the National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with military honors on a future date to be announced. Memorial contributions may be sent in memory of Mr. Woodruff to St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Blue Ridge. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.thescfh.com.
