Obituary for Franklin D. "Buddy" Mitchell

Franklin D. "Buddy" Mitchell, age 89, of White, GA passed away peacefully on Wednesday,
November 30, 2022 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.

Buddy was born in Marietta, Georgia to Horace and Pearl Mitchell. He was drafted into the
Army and fought in the Korean War in the early 50’s. When he returned home, he married
his wife of 62 years, Ann. The had a beautiful family including two sons and a daughter.
Never someone who shied away from hard work, Buddy went to work early in life and
eventually retired from the A & P Tea Company after 50 years of service. While he enjoyed
his customers and co-workers, he truly loved his free time and spending time family above
all else.

In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking – building furniture and birdhouses. He relished
time with friends - seeking out the best barbeque along the Georgia Barbeque Trail. And
he loved fishing and spending time on his boat at Allatoona Lake – a love he shared and
passed on to his children and grandchildren. He also learned he finally had time for church
on Sundays, and found a loving extended family at Sutallee Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by, Parents: Horace and Pearl Mitchell; his grandson, Jon Charles
Gridley; his brothers Guy, Troy, Bobby, Gene and Maurice Mitchell and sister, Willie Mae
Caldwell. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Ann Mitchell; daughter Vicki (David)
Gazaway; and sons Kenneth (Lisa) and Matthew (Nicki) Mitchell. He is also survived by six
grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Chad Penland, Clayton Gridley, Paige Mitchell,
Austin Mitchell, Nella Mitchell and Luke Mitchell; and Kelbie Penland and Geronimo "Mo"
Gridley Roys.

Several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 pm, on Saturday, December 03, 2022, at the Chapel
of South Canton Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Edmondson officiating. Interment will follow
at Georgia National Cemetery at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, with United
States Army Honors.

There will be no public visitation prior to the Funeral Service.
