Obituary for Corally McElveen

Corally McElveen, age 76, was born April 15, 1947 and died May 13, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtice and Frank McElveen. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, LeAnne McElveen Bird and The Honorable Samuel N. Bird of Arkansas, her niece Stephanie Bird Yates and husband, Samuel W. Yates of Atlanta, her nephew David Bird and wife, Alix Bird of Montana, and her great nieces and nephews, Julia Yates, Sam Yates, Iris Yates and Isaac Gilmore.

Corally graduated from Bass High School in Atlanta, GA and received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of Georgia. From an early age, Corally was enthralled with animals and spent her childhood with cats, dogs, turtles, goldfish, parakeets, ducks and baby chickens. However, her favorite activity was galloping around the yard on a stick pony.

As an adult, Corally kept her interest in animals with a continuous stream of pets. Her first was a prize-winning Arabian stallion who provided her a roomful of blue ribbons. Her love of pets continued with several breeds of dogs, ending with border collies, all named with alliteration – Rose, Rhyme, Reign, Rich and Ray.

Corally was smart, ambitious and multi-talented. She took advantage of a changing business world to accept challenging new jobs which included: Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Peachtree Animal Hospital, Major Leasing, Inc., MCI Worldcom and Electronic Data Systems.

Her ever-changing interests also included tangible items. She loved face jugs by Dwayne Crocker and quirky decorative pots by Carolyn Simmons. Of less value, but a lot more fun, was a quick run-through of the Goodwill store, a yard sale or estate sale for treasures and bargains.

We all will miss the sharp wit and kooky humor of our beloved sister, aunt, and friend.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from the South Canton Funeral Home.
