Obituary for Vernon "Jack" Reece

Vernon "Jack" Reece
Vernon “Jack” Reece, 86, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on May 1, 2016.
Born, September 18, 1929 in the Big Springs Community of Cherokee County, Georgia. Jack resided in the land of his father on Mountain Road his entire life. The youngest son of Grady Lee Reece and Fannie Mae Wheeler Reece, Jack was raised on a farm with his older brother, Norris, and his younger sister, Margaret. Working beside his family in the cotton fields is where Jack would develop the character and work ethic that would define his life.
As a boy, Jack walked to and from his home to attend Big Springs School. At the age of 17 he began working for Woodstock Poultry. Jack married Grace Simmons in November of 1953. They worked together with his father to build a home across the road from his birthplace, the same home where they would reside together for over 60 years until his death.
Jack and Grace were blessed with two loving and supportive daughters, Ellen and Samantha. Jack and his wife worked diligently together to build a successful family poultry business and small-engine repair shop. They later opened the locally well-known Reece’s Power Tools. After a hard day’s work at his business, Jack could often be found continuing his labor by plowing a field, growing and harvesting crops, or mowing acres of grass on his beloved farm. Jack and Grace were always happiest when they worked from sun up until sun down.
Jack not only loved his home, he also loved the Lord and his community. He served as a Deacon and Sunday School Director in the local Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Hickory Flat Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Throughout his life, Jack committed himself to serving the local community. While he was known as a quiet soft-spoken man, his family remembers him as a vivid storyteller with a sharp memory on the history of his family, friends, businesses, and country.
Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family, and embraced his role as “Paw-Paw”, as he took great pride in the accomplishments of his daughters and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a consistent man of great faith, principles, kindness, strength, toughness, and integrity. He deeply loved his family and worked hard his entire life to provide for them. His wife, Grace, said of Jack, “He was born a country boy and died a true country gentleman.”

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Fannie Mae Reece, and his brother Norris Reece.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Grace Simmons Reece, his two daughters, Ellen Honea and husband Donnie of Woodstock, and Samantha Wheeler and husband Darryl of Woodstock; three grandchildren, Josh Honea and wife Ellie of Winder, Katie Honea St. Onge and husband David of Canton, Buckley Wheeler and wife Callie of Canton; great-grandchildren Jilian and Jack St. Onge, and Emma Honea; sister Margaret Wheeler, and sister-in-law Joy Reece. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Rev. Gerral Richards officiating. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park with Rev. Pete Martin.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, May 3, 2016, and from 10:00 AM to funeral hour on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at South Canton Funeral Home.
