Obituary for William Hebren Sanford

William Hebren Sanford, 73, of Woodstock, GA., passed away June 4, 2015, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Bill died at his home surrounded by those he loved.

Born in Laurel, MS., Bill grew up in Biloxi, MS. where he excelled in many sports including baseball, basketball and football. While attending Biloxi High School he was voted Class President, played varsity football and was among those chosen to play on the Mississippi All Star Football Team. Bill was recruited by many universities and chose to play football under the legendary University of Alabama Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. After graduation, Bill began Navy flight training in Pensacola, FL. He served in Vietnam and continued as a Navy Reserve Pilot retiring as Captain in 1985. Bill flew as a Captain with Eastern Airlines and retired from US Airways in 1998. In retirement, Bill enjoyed playing golf, but most of all spending time with his six grandchildren. He was known for his wit, charming personality, great sense of humor and friendliness. To quote a good friend, " Bill was not only a very interesting man but he was also interested in others." During their 50 years of marriage, Bill and Carolyn enjoyed traveling to many places in the U.S and also to other countries around the World.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Internment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 8, 2015, and from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at South Canton Funeral Home.

He was preceded in death by, Parents: O.H. and Frances Sanford.

Survivors include:
Wife - Carolyn Sanford, Woodstock
Daughter - Jennifer and Carlton Smith, Lilburn
Son - Billy and Shawna Sanford, Canton
Daughter - Laura and Greg Davis, Canton
Sister - Barbara Sanford, New Orleans, LA.
Grandchildren - Rebecca Smith; Hannah and Sean Sanford; Asher, Abby, and Anna Davis
