Obituary for Jo Ann Gunter (Wade)

Mrs. Jo Ann Gunter, age 70 of Canton, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014. Mrs. Gunter, a native of Forsyth County, was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ellijay. She was retired from the Cherokee County Board of Education after 25 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Glover Wade and her father, Elbert Wade. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Reverend Monroe Gunter of Canton; daughter and former son-in-law Buffy Hamilton and Scott Hamilton, Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Jocelyn Gunter, Johnson City, TN. "Grammy" is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Owen and Camden Gunter, Johnson City, TN.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, April 23, from the Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Burt, Rev. Larry Waddell, and Rev. Tommy Estes officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, and from 10:00 AM until noon on Wednesday at South Canton Funeral Home. Mrs. Gunter will lie-in-state from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM at Bethany Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or St. Jude Children's Hospital in Mrs. Gunters memory.
